I'm sure everyone guessed since I hadn't blogged that we had our baby, and your right...
Friday April 10th at 12:30am in the morning I starting going into Labor, by 3:30am we were at the hospital being admitted, I was dilated to a 7 already and they were sure I would deliver within that next couple hours. Despite all my efforts to go "all Natural" At 8cm I opted for an epidural!! My water hadn't broken yet so I was able to handle the contractions, I knew it was only going to get worse, When I got the epidural, my labor slowed down, which we expected so by 10:00 am I was pushing, and since everyone else was like "good, keep going, we can see the head, etc,etc.." I got really antsy and wanted to watch too, so Jason set up the mirror and after only 30mins of pushing at 10:31am KAILAH EVE RALEIGH was born (pronounced: Kye'la) she weighted 7lbs 14oz and 19inches long. We think she looks like Jason but has my nose and my face shape. She has so much blonde hair, I love it!
We stayed at the hospital for 2 days instead of one, we both really needed it, Jason was antsy to get home, but having a nurse available at the push of a button was very comforting. The first night was pretty rough. Kailah had a hard time feeding and she swallowed alot of amniotic fluid, but by the second day we were ready (we thought) to go home. So on Easter morning we woke up to the beautiful sunshine, and our hospital treated us to a celebratory lunch, with sparkling cider and everything. Then we gathered our things and took Kailah outside for the first time to the most beautiful Easter Sunday we had ever seen. The hospital grounds were blooming with white flowers everywhere. That weekend they had a baby boom, so several other mothers were taking their little ones home too. It was perfect!
Kailah's first car ride.
Here is a video put together by photographer Alisa "bean" Morrow She was so great to capture every moment of Kailah's first minutes of life, I am so happy we can share it with all our family and friends, I didn't want anyone but Jason and I in the room during the birth so I think by sharing this video you can hopefully feel like you shared the moment with us too.
Since we have been home, I haven't gotten any sleep! Kailah still had a hard time feeding and we have been back to the hospital the last two days (and the rest of this week) to work with a lactation consultant and get her the nutrients she needs. She lost a whole pound since the hospital, which was too much to lose and she was getting dehydrated, but I am happy to say that the MILK IS IN! and this little baby is eating it up, so as of today she is at a happy 7lbs and almost 1oz, so she's on her way back up the scale, and I think we are all going to be sleeping a little bit more soundly. :)
We both want to give props to our Hospital Kaiser Permenete! We are so happy with our whole experience and the care they showed us, all the free classes and services they offer has helped us tremendously! We will be so sad when Cobra(unemployement insurance) is up and we have to find a new insurance. But thank you Vans, cause if we would have never moved out here and Jason didn't get this insurance from his work, then I know we wouldn't have had as good of experience as we did! :D
I know I have been talking about the nursery and haven't posted pictures, but it literally got completely finished like 2 days before I went into Labor, so Here is some pics of Kailah's room (that she hasn't even gone into yet.)
spoiled little girl! look at all those clothes!
Oh ya and I have to give credit where credit is due...Jason has been the BIGGEST help! I don't know what I would do if I had to do this alone! Although I have been having a hard time, and I've been pretty emotional since Kailah hadn't been eating (plus I just gave birth 4 days ago!) So I'm not so much fun to be around right now, But Jason has done everything I have asked him to do (which is a lot of things!!!!) He's changed more diapers than me and he loves soothing Baby Kai on his chest, which is a huge help when I need to shower or am just too tired. He's definitely a good Daddy, He didn't know if he would like the newborn stage, since she's not very lively, but let me tell you, him and I both don't want her to get any bigger. She is so fun to cuddle, and just stare at. When she is up she always crosses her eyes and makes funny faces, and we just sit there and laugh! She is definitely our number one girl!
Thank you for sharing your story! She is so adorable and she has the cutest nursery.
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting reading how you wanted to go natural because so do I... I guess we'll see how things go once I'm in labor right?

She is cute and I am glad there was finally a picture of her eyes open. LOL, I can totally see you two watching her making funny faces and busting up. Make sure you go crazy with pictures. Digital is awesome because you could take TONS of pictures!! I cant wait to see more. Good luck with everything and call me if you ever have any questions or are just wanting someone to talk to. What is your calling plan? I never know when I can call you.
Do you want me to bring any clothes of Mayas for her or anything when I come out?? It looks like she has a ton, but please let me know if there is something you are lacking in and I will see what I can bring you. I cant wait to see all of you!
