I reserved a campsite at Thornhill Broome Beach this past weekend. We invited a few of our friends and we ended up having a lot of fun! This was Kailah's very first time camping and I was a little worried about how she would sleep, but she ended up sleeping really well and even took a nap in the morning too. Our friends brought their dog Maggie and Kailah just Loved her! Kailah would pat her back and pull her tail and try to feed her food. It was really cute and I am so glad she is comfortable around dogs.
A few years ago Jason's parents gave us a tent and sleeping bags and we had never used them until this weekend! It was like christmas setting up our tent! It ended up being a bigger tent than I imagined, It was tall enough to stand in, which I really like. Also our sleeping bags have a really nice fleece blanket inside that we can zip out and use as a throw. Wow! we were so excited! and now even more motivated to go camping again so we can use our stuff. Thanks Jason's parents for the great camping stuff we Love it!

Do you know your prophets?
Jason and I teach the 8 year olds in Primary and this past Sunday the Stake Presidents wife, who is in our ward, came into singing time to tell us her story about the song, Latter-Day Prophets, from the LDS Childrens Songbook. I was so suprised to know that she was the one who actually wrote this song. She wrote it to the tune of 'all around the mulberry bush' and she wrote it for a girl in her class who was having trouble remembering the prophets. Since we have had several new prophets since Kimball, who i think the song ended on when she wrote it, the church has added the new prophets and taken out some of the words to make the song the same length. Anyways, I thought this was so cool and I didn't know just anyone could write songs and submit them to the church, which is what she did. I remember learning this song in Primary and I loved hearing her song. Jason doesn't remember ever hearing this song at all...I told him, that was probably the year he didn't go to church. Since when he was little he said his family was inactive for about a year.
Oh yeah, and speaking of Prophets my sister in-law Bridget is a direct descendant of Brigham Young. They have this Luncheon for the granddaughters of Brigham Young every year, that she gets to go to. pretty cool!

Dinner For Schmucks!
We were 'invited' to go see a pre-screening of the movie Dinner For Schmucks. It was Hilarious! Jason and I both agreed that we hadn't seen a movie that funny, in such a long time.
Because it was a pre-screening, it was a free movie, we just had to fill out a survey at the end of the show, and arrive early to make sure we got in. It was fun. We will probably try and do this again for other movies.
Memorial Day 2010
This is our first Memorial Day in Thousand Oaks. We spent the morning at a memorial ceremony at the Westlake Memorial Cemetery. We both enjoyed being around a lot of people who were showing their thanks to all the military who have passed before us. I absolutely loved hearing the band play all the patriotic songs. That brought both of us nearly to tears. I am so proud to be an American! I am so grateful for days like these to really help us remember how privileged we are to live here in the United States and to be born into a church who knows God and Jesus Christ. That is so important to me!
In the afternoon we tried going to the Topanga County Fair. They had lots of bands playing and Ziggy Marley was supposed to be there. When we got there we found out it was $20 bucks per person which is ridiculous to me. Most fairs are free to get in and then you pay for everything once you get inside. So we decided not to go, but as we were walking around a bit we saw the most interested people! It was pretty much a Hippie Hangout! Seriously, imagine 40year old women in flowy floral skirts and belly shirts and really long hair....we saw lots of these. As well as men without shirts on and short shorts. very interesting and probably not a crowd we would have fit into... So we ended up driving down to the beach, getting lunch at a super yummy Kitchen bakery in Malibu and then we went to find a good spot in the sand to lay out at Zuma beach. While we were sitting in traffic going 5 miles an hour, Jason looks over and the car passing us had Pierce Brosnan driving the car! We kept looking at the cars passing us to see if we would see any other celebrities and Jason says; "look who it is..." Luke Wilson was driving past us in a Black Camaro. That was so funny to us to see these celebrities cause we are down there all the time and we NEVER see celebrities.

The worst feeling!
I just finished reading a story about a woman who forgot about her baby in the back seat of her car all day and I won't even finish telling you the end of the story cause I feel sick in my stomach and I just want to cry! I have heard so many stories like this and now that it's summertime I get more and more nervous about the kind of accidents that can happen with kailah if I'm not paying attention! This puts so much pressure on us as parents and I wish I never even thought about bad things happening like this but I do.
I used to babysit for a family when I was younger who lost a baby Because the mom thought the dad had the baby and the dad thought the mom had the baby and the baby ended up wondering off to a river and drowning. I remember crying forever and just feeling so sick to my stomach about that accident. But now that I'm a parent it's so much more of a reality. God blessed me with this little person who we have responsibility for. If anything were to happen to kailah I wouldn't be able to live with myself.
Jason and I can be very forgetful people sometimes and we tend to not listen to eachother sometimes too which leads to miscommunication and a lot of hear say. This feels like an accident waiting to happen. I talked to Jason about this tonight and I hope and pray that we will always be mindful of our children and where they are. I know these accidents can happen to anyone and Anything can happen in a split second. Now that kailah is walking I really have to watch her. She LOVES to explore and is not scared of the ocean or pool one bit! Infact she tends to run for the water when she sees it lately!
She also likes to run out into the road before I put her In the car and she loves trying to go down the stairs which she has not figured out how to properly do yet! And the playground...well that's a whole other story...
I'm praying for a happy safe summer and am going to ALWAYS check my backseat and always know where kailah is EVEN if it's Jasons turn to watch her! I hope I will be able to make these habits of mine!
